Jules Taylor OTQ Chardonnay 2019

AROMA & FLAVOUR

This wine has a luscious gold hue and a complex nose of peaches, papaya and brazil nuts. Rich and opulent, it has lashings of macadamia and spice and just the right amount of smokiness, whilst retaining beautiful, concentrated citrus and stone fruit flavours and an elegant backbone of acidity. This is a powerful, brilliantly structured wine with a long, complex finish.

VINEYARD NOTES

This single vineyard Chardonnay is made from hand picked grapes grown in the Meadowbank Estate Vineyard in the Taylor Pass subregion of Marlborough. This particular block was carefully managed for low yields and highly flavoured grapes. The wine is a mix of two clones – Clone 95 and Mendoza Clone Chardonnay.

VINIFICATION

The Mendoza Clone parcel was pressed straight to barrel for a wild fermentation. The Clone 95 was split into two parcels, one fermented wild, and one inoculated with M2 yeast. All the wine went through a full Malolactic fermentation to soften the acid profile before maturing in barrel with occasional lees stirring for nine months. The result is a tiny 70 cases of exquisite, complex, harmonious Chardonnay.
